Today, another community in Plateau State is heavy with grief. Families are counting losses. Local believers are trying to care for the hurting while also watching their own communities closely. This is a moment to intercede.
A trusted partner reports that on Sunday evening (March 29), gunmen attacked Anguwan Rukuba in Jos North, bringing sudden violence to an ordinary night.
Police have confirmed 26 people were killed, and a 48-hour curfew has been imposed as leaders try to prevent further escalation.
Tragically, this comes as Holy Week approaches. Last year, more than 50 Christians were killed in an attack on Palm Sunday.
Here are five specific ways to pray right now.
- Pray for those who are grieving. Ask God to be near to families mourning sudden loss. The Bible promises that “The Lord is near the brokenhearted…” (Psalm 34:18). Ask the Lord to make his presence known to the people experiencing loss in this community. Pray for pastors and church leaders as they carry grief alongside their people.
- Pray for the injured and for those providing care. Ask for healing, effective medical treatment, and strength for caregivers. Pray that practical needs would be met quickly and fully.
- Pray for protection and restraint in Jos North. Ask God to prevent further attacks and to quiet fear. Pray that the curfew would reduce danger and that vulnerable families would be kept safe.
- Pray against retaliation, and for peace across communities. Ask God to stop cycles of revenge before they spread. Pray for leaders and neighbors to choose restraint and to protect one another.
- Pray for truth, accountability, and wise leadership. Ask God to bring what is hidden into the light and to frustrate plans for more violence. Pray for integrity, discernment, and courage for authorities and security agencies.
As Holy Week draws near, we remember that Christ is not distant from suffering. Bring Jos North before the Father by name, and ask for mercy, protection, and lasting peace.
