50 Greenhouses Breaking the Cycle of Poverty in Nepal

At A Glance:

In remote Nepal, Christian families face a daily struggle to provide for their children.

  • Thanks to our supporters, however, that's changed for 50 vulnerable families.
  • The provision of tunnel greenhouses with drip irrigation systems are helping them break the cycles of poverty and food insecurity.
  • Now these families are moving forward with dignity and purpose, a beautiful reminder of what happens when you show up for your brothers and sisters in the most remote corners of the world.

Breaking the Cycle

In the remote mountains of Nepal, where jobs are scarce and land is limited, Christian families face a daily struggle to provide food, education, and basic necessities for their children. Many depend on inconsistent wage labor or meager remittances from family members working abroad.

But that's changed for dozens of households in these rural communities.

Thanks to our supporters, 50 vulnerable Christian families have just received plastic tunnel greenhouses with drip irrigation systems as well as agricultural training to operate them. These structures not only function to grow vegetables but also to break the cycle of poverty and food insecurity.

From Dependency to Empowerment

Martha's husband works in a different country because local jobs are so scarce, leaving her to manage their family's daily expenses on his meager stipends. There's never quite enough left to care for her daughter and in-laws who live with them.

But with her new greenhouse, Martha can now grow vegetables year-round both seasonal and off-season crops that fetch higher prices at local markets. For the first time, she's improving her family's living conditions without relying solely on limited income from abroad.

Martha doesn't have to wait for the next remittance check. She's feels a renewed sense of hope and confidence as she makes up the difference on her own.

Steady Work, Not  Sleepless Nights

Ron is a devoted husband father to two daughters who hasn't known a day without the struggle of providing food, schooling, and basic necessities for his family. He depends on wage labor, but there are many days when no work is available. That uncertainty keeps him awake at night.

When Ron received his greenhouse, he felt a sense of renewed purpose he hasn't experienced in a long time. He now grows tomatoes, cucumbers, beans, chilies, and leafy greens creating a sustainable food and income source right in his own backyard.

Ron no longer lies awake wondering if there will be work tomorrow. He has steady work in his own backyard.

The Impact

As of this writing, all 50 families have now received their greenhouse materials and training. Most have completed construction, and several have already planted their first crops. Early reports show healthy growth and families filled with gratitude.

These plastic tunnels protect crops from unpredictable weather and pests while significantly increasing yield and income potential. For families living on the edge of survival, this means food security, additional income, year-round production, and hope for the next generation.

For those 50 families, this project changed their stories.

They’re moving forward with dignity and purpose where poverty and land and job scarcity would have otherwise held them back.

This is a beautiful reminder of what happens when the global Church shows up for our brothers and sisters in the most remote corners of the world, reminding them they're not forgotten.
