"How is it possible," he wondered, "to pray to the same god and, in that same name, fight and kill one another?"
This question haunted a soldier in the Middle East as Muslim prayer was called out and both his fellow servicemen and ISIS fighters knelt on the battlefield.
This question was the first step in his journey toward Christ.
The Journey Toward Christ
After witnessing unspeakable acts committed in the name of the same faith, the soldier began asking questions. He spoke with religious leaders at the mosque. He read religious books. He searched for answers.
Until one day, another soldier handed him a Bible.
"Read this," the man said, "and you will find answers."
The soldier took a risk by accepting the Bible. In his culture, owning a Christian Bible can put you in danger of imprisonment or worse.
But the moment the soldier held the Bible in his hands, something shifted.
He felt peace.
A Different Kind of Community
Wanting to explore this new pathway of faith, the soldier visited a small church. When he walked through the door, Christian men and women welcomed him with open arms.
That's when he decided to accept the Lord Jesus as his Savior.
Today, this former soldier is part of a growing underground church in one of the most dangerous regions in the world for Christians. His journey from the battlefield to faith began with a single question – and a single Bible placed in his hands.
21,389 Bibles, Countless Stories
This soldier's story is just one of thousands unfolding across the Middle East at this very moment.
Through the generosity of our faithful supporters, 21,389 Kurdish believers and seekers are getting God's Word in their own language – many for the very first time. One of our recent Bible projects was fulfilled, covering 11,500 printed New Testaments and 9,889 audio SD cards for small house churches and individual believers who've been waiting to hold Scripture in their hands.
For these believers, the Bible isn't just a book. It's spiritual nourishment in the midst of persecution. It's strength to stand firm when faith costs everything. It's the foundation for living in communities where following Jesus can mean losing your family, your job, or even your life.
And it's the answer no other religious leaders or sacred text can satisfy – questions like the one that troubled a soldier on a battlefield, watching enemies pray to the same god while trying to kill each other.
The Bible in that soldier's hands didn't just give him answers.
It gave him peace.
It gave him hope.
It gave him a new life.
And thousands more across the Middle East are experiencing that same transformation – one Bible at a time.
