Where 25 Displaced Christian Families in Syria Found Refuge From the Winter Cold

At A Glance:

  • During winter, 25 displaced Christian families fleeing Syria found refuge inside a church hall.
  • As temperatures dropped,  our  supporters helped transform the hall into a warm refuge from freezing conditions.
  • As a result, one family welcomed their newborn daughter in warmth, safety, and dignity during the coldest time of year.
  • Here are ways you can pray for Syrian believers who need us to stand with them.

When our supporters heard about Syrian believers in crisis, they responded quickly to provide immediate relief, like family does.
Their gifts became warmth, safety, and hope for families who lost everything.

In an earlier update, we told you about the renovations and aid that reached survivors of Mar Elias Church

This winter, that support also reached 25 displaced Christian families who fled attacks in Syria and found refuge inside a church hall. The church hall wasn't designed for long-term living, but as temperatures dropped, the space transformed into a warm refuge from the freezing conditions.

We were able to give the church 11 new heaters, monthly fuel deliveries, and winter clothing to keep 75 people warm, prioritizing children, elderly residents, and the medically vulnerable.

Impact for persecuted Christians in Syria

What this quick action meant for a pregnant mother

Among those the church welcomed was Hana, a young mother whose story shows exactly what this support means.

Earlier in 2025, Hana and her husband lost their 6-month-old daughter shortly before an armed groups attacked their village. Hana fled with her young son while her husband stayed behind. While displaced, Hana discovered she was pregnant.

Hana and her husband reunited at the church shelter, and Hana gave birth to their daughter on Christmas Day. Because of the outpouring of support, this family welcomed their newborn daughter in warmth, safety, and dignity during the coldest time of year.

"We lost our home and everything we worked for, but we did not lose our faith," Hana shared. "This support made us feel that someone truly sees us and stands with us during the hardest moments of our lives."

The support that strengthens the church in Syria

Hana's story is one of 25 whose families found safety this winter because supporters responded. Christian families who might have fled Syria were sheltered, cared for, and reminded they're not forgotten.

This is the kind of support that helps the church in Syria hold strong, even under ongoing persecution, displacement, and threats to the church.

But recovery takes years. Families like Hana's need more than emergency relief. They need sustained care as they rebuild and raise the next generation in faith.

How to Pray for Hana and Believers in Syria

As Hana and her family navigate life in their displacement, they can use our prayers. Please take a moment to lift Syrian believers in prayer:

  • Pray for safety and provision for families like Hana's in Syria as they rebuild their lives in uncertain circumstances.
  • Pray for strength and resilience for mothers raising children in displacement and for fathers working to provide for their families. Pray for God's protection over their children, that they would grow up with unshakable faith.
  • Pray for the strength of the church in Syria as it's under attack and persecution continues.

Syria's church is in crisis Strengthen persecuted believers where Christianity is at risk

Only 500,000 Christians are left in Syria, an 80% decrease since 2011. Immediate aid helps families like Hana's recover. But ongoing support allows them to stay and helps strengthen the Church there for the long term. Become a monthly partner to help protect the church in Syria.
