Persecuted Christians claim Jesus in Pakistan

The cost of being a believer in Pakistan couldn’t be higher: with the government seemingly backing Islamic extremist groups, police forces act apathetically when called on to help persecuted Christians in need. And with unfair blasphemy laws designed to silence anyone who opposes Islam, Christians are persecuted in every area of their lives—in fact, many don’t even feel the freedom to worship publicly.

Pakistan is a country of more than 230 million people, but less than 2%, or just over 4 million, are Christians.  

Over the next few weeks, we’ll share stories of these minority believers who fiercely stave off persecution and share a faith that’s continually deepening. Their Christian walk in the face of violence and hatred is inspiring. Our Pakistani brother in Christ Aslam shares, “Jesus is our treasure—He’s everything to us.”

Even in the Pakistani brick kilns, where countless persecuted Christians routinely engage in a type of bonded slavery, the love of Jesus penetrates and inspires. Faith remains strong, even in the midst of physical anguish. Says Azeeb, a Christian man who has been working the brick kilns for close to 25 years: ““My whole body believers in Jesus. My hope is only in God. Jesus can help us. The hope is that God will encourage other believers to help us and get us out of the stress of paying off the debt.”
