Pastor Laurent, a persecuted Christian in Burkina Faso, abducted

July 7, 2023 by Abigail Hart in Persecuted Christians in Burkina Faso

The last his family heard from him was on the day of his kidnapping. An eyewitness in a village says they saw him tied-up, blindfolded and moved to another location. His wife and six kids are safe after being relocated. However, Pastor Laurent’s whereabouts remain unknown.

Burkina Faso has a million displaced Christians from violence due to radical Islamic groups. These groups have invaded areas that were previously safe for believers. Even with 23% of the nation being Christian, there are increasing threats facing the body of Christ in this African country.

In the presence of such evil, be reminded of Romans 12:21: “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”

It’s hard to imagine overcoming such fearful situations with good, but God’s love never fails. The kindness, goodness and merciful nature of God are part of His strength and power. With so many unknowns and troubling events, such as the kidnapping of Pastor Laurent, it can look overwhelming. However, we can look to our God for comfort. He is mighty, unmovable and the true King of Kings. Nothing is too great for our God.

Let us pray for Pastor Laurent.

Father God, You know all things. Rescue Pastor Laurent from the hands of his oppressors and restore him to his family. Encourage and strengthen him.

Be with His family, Lord, and keep them safe. Fill them with hope. Help them keep their eyes on You through their storm.

And give these Jihadist groups an undeniable life-changing encounter with You that would bring them to salvation. Turn around all the evil for the good of those that love You. In Jesus’ name. Amen
