Young Christian missionaries in Haiti ambushed, killed by gangs

May 27, 2024 by Chandler Peterson in Uncategorized

Just 23 and 21 years old, David and Natalie had finished attending a church youth group event when three truckloads of armed men arrived on the scene. Gang members attacked the Christian missionaries in Haiti and stole vehicles belonging to the missions team.

Badly beaten, David was initially released. The couple took shelter but were soon shot to death after additional gang members showed up.

Missouri State Representative Ben Baker is the father of Natalie Lloyd. He announced the couple’s untimely passing on Facebook.

“My heart is broken in a thousand pieces,” wrote Baker. “I’ve never felt this kind of pain. … They went to Heaven together. Please pray for my family we desperately need strength. And please pray for the Lloyd family as well. I have no other words for now.”

As the son of missionaries, David Lloyd grew up in Haiti and later attended Bible college in the United States. He married Natalie in 2022 and the couple moved to Haiti that fall, having a great love for the Haitian people and a desire to lead them to the Lord. While they knew the risks of remaining in Haiti as organized crime and gang violence surged, they refused to abandon the children they were serving there.

As Christian missionaries in Haiti, David and Natalie undoubtedly made a life-changing impact on the Haitian youth in their care. We are inspired by their courage and determination to serve God and the children, despite danger lurking all around. We recall Matthew 5:10, which says, “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

Pray for David and Natalie’s parents, including Rep. Ben Baker. Pray that God will comfort them as only He can while they endure the pain of losing a child. Ask God that He will remind them that their children made an eternal impact in Haiti and their loving sacrifice will be remembered by countless people around the globe. Pray for all violence and organized crime to cease in Haiti.
