Praying For A Movement: Practical Ways to Pray for the Persecuted Church

Have you ever felt the effect of others praying for you?

When you pray for the persecuted church, your prayers reach across continents daily, bringing comfort, breaking chains, and sparking hope for believers under fire. The power of prayer for the persecuted church is evident in every transformation, including the stories within these pages.

Khalid, freed from decades of slavery, now pays prayer forward. Tabitha’s new life, unimaginable without prayer, was rebuilt on it. Aurelio’s prayers shine God’s light through his Mexican community.

Reflecting on another impactful year, we envision a global movement of prayer for our persecuted familya collective symphony rising for justice, strength, and breakthrough.

We invite you to enlist your most powerful spiritual arsenal for our brothers and sisters enduring immense pressure – from surveillance in Central Asia to violence in Sub-Saharan Africa, nationalism in Southeast Asia, or brutality in Latin America. Your prayers wrap the Body of Christ in the greatest power in the universe and let them know they’re not alone.

How can you take part in this global movement of prayer?

  1. Start a “parallel prayer” routine
Turn daily routines into prayer opportunities. As you go about your day, lift the unique challenges of persecuted believers in prayer. See a school? Pray for Christian children who are denied education. See a hospital? Pray for believers suffering violence. Find specific prayer needs in our free monthly Prayer Force Alerts.
  2. Become a GCR Advocate
Deepen your involvement by joining our Advocate program. You’ll receive free resources to spread awareness about the challenges of persecuted Christians, mobilizing others to pray and support this global movement.
  3. Pray Scripture to God (Lectio Divina)
Use Bible passages as a prayer script. Select a truth, promise, or command in Scripture, and turn it into personal prayer. For example, use Hebrews 13:3 to pray: “Lord, I lift up our imprisoned brothers and sisters. Comfort those mistreated; let them feel Your presence.” This roots your prayers in God’s Word and enriches your understanding of it.

Your commitment to prayer is a sacred responsibility, a lifeline of hope, and a testament to God’s unwavering love. Join us in this global movement to pray for the persecuted church, and witness the impossible become possible through the power of our collective prayer.
