Help Us Reach a Special Goal
Rekha Comes to Faith in Christ—But Lacks Access to a Bible
A new Christian convert in Nepal, Rekha recently sat down with the GCR team to share her inspiring testimony. Before her Christian walk, Rekha was a Hindu—like millions of others in Nepal. And due to life’s challenges, she was overcome with grief. “My children became sick. My husband passed away,” Rekha shared as she wiped tears from her eyes, recalling a time of immense struggle in her personal life.
But an invitation to church from her very own sister would forever change Rekha’s spiritual path, and bring her newfound joy. “It was a difficult time,” she says of her husband’s death. “We decided to accompany my sister to church. We went with her, and we started having faith,” Rekha recalled. Prior to church, she says, “We suffered a lot. Thank God we came to the Lord.”
As Rekha learned how to pray by attending church, she began seeking the Lord in fervent prayer. Suddenly, things became better as the peace of Christ flooded her heart. But like many Christians in Nepal, Rekha is illiterate. She can neither read nor write, so she could not press into the Word of God, as often as she desired. Instead, she was reliant on others in the church, who would occasionally read the Bible to her.

Nepali Christians need audio Bibles
GCR Works to Send Bibles Now to Nepali Christians Like Rekha
When the team at Global Christian Relief discovered that Rekha did not own a Bible, we worked with our partners on the ground to gift Rekha her very own audio Bible, and she was ecstatic! The audio Bible is a hand-held, solar powered device that is pre-loaded with the Scripture in her native language.
“I will walk listening to it. I will play it to friends and fellow villagers. I can go to their houses and show them,” exclaimed Rekha. As she described her hunger for the intimacy of God’s Word, she said, “For me, He is almighty and powerful. He is the great Lord of life. He is my Heavenly Father.”
This simple yet profound gift—the solar-powered audio Bible—is a key element of growing and sustaining the persecuted church in places like Nepal, where most people prefer to learn by listening rather than by reading. Additionally, within this oral culture, people appreciate the audio Bible’s ability to charge via solar power, because Nepal is home to remote villages and rugged terrain in which electricity is not always readily available. When you choose to send Bibles now, you will help to advance the gospel in nations where many haven’t yet heard the good news of Jesus Christ!

Rekha receives an audio Bible tutorial
This Giving Tuesday, You Can Send Bibles Now to Persecuted Believers
When Rekha chose to become a Christian, her Hindu friends and neighbors did not approve. In fact, they pressured her to return to her Hindu roots. She shares, “They used to say, ‘Why do you go to the Lord?’ and things like that.” New converts in minority-Christian countries like Nepal are particularly vulnerable to persecution; the societal pressure and social ostracism they endure is often difficult to bear.
But Rekha’s audio Bible allows her to remain committed to her newfound faith in Christ. She continues, “It does not matter if they hate me. I did not feel any regret [for converting], even in my heart.” Because she remained steadfast, the persecution eventually tapered off over time. Today, she says, “Now, nobody says anything. They have accepted it.”
As you can see, the precious gift of a Bible is so important for persecuted believers and new converts. And today, on Giving Tuesday, you can share God’s Word with those in need. During this annual celebration of generosity—taking place all day on Tuesday, December 3—you can send Bibles now to at-risk Christians around the world. We have set an exciting goal on Giving Tuesday: to raise $400,000—which would provide 80,000 Bibles for people just like Rekha.

Send Bibles Now to Southeast Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Beyond
After the GCR team concluded their visit with Rekha in Nepal, Nigeria was next on our itinerary. GCR has covered the harrowing stories of Nigerian believers before, including brave individuals like Suzanne and Deborah who both survived Boko Haram’s Islamic terror attacks. It was time to check in on their progress as they work to heal from significant spiritual, emotional and physical trauma—all while following Jesus in the most deadly nation for Christians today.
There, Brian (GCR’s Chief Story Officer) recorded a special Giving Tuesday video on the ground in Africa. Watch as he shares how a $5 gift can make an eternal impact on those like Suzanne and Deborah, who risk their lives to practice their Christian faith in one of the most dangerous places on Earth.
A Prayer for Believers in Need of the Bible
On Giving Tuesday, we invite you to pray for believers around the world who desperately need the encouragement of God’s Word. Whether it be Rekha in Nepal or our sisters like Suzanne and Deborah in Nigeria, they need the Bible to remain committed to Jesus, grow in faith and welcome others in the family of Christ.
Heavenly Father, thank You for bringing joy to Rekha’s life where there had been mourning. We’re so grateful that her sister’s invitation to church led to such a powerful, spiritual transformation. Lord, encourage Rekha as she navigates life as a widow, and meet her daily needs through her newfound church community. In her husband’s absence, we pray she will experience Your profound comfort as listens to the words of Scripture on her audio Bible. Impress upon her the importance of sharing Your Word with all who have ears to hear.
Lord, we also lift up believers like Suzanne and Deborah in Nigeria and elsewhere around the world where it is truly dangerous to be a follower of Christ. We pray for Your Word to not return void. Strengthen and sustain these persecuted Christians through the power of the gospel, and may they go on to advance the Great Commission despite signifiicant opposition, violence and persecution. Amen.

She is passionate about increasing awareness of Christian persecution around the world, and highlighting stories of those who are suffering for their faith. She invites you to read the latest stories of Christian persecution on the GCR website.

Around the world, evangelists have many hurdles to advancing the Great Commission. Many nations are similar to Nepal; they have an oral culture, a high illiteracy rate, and a challenging geographical landscape to navigate. In places where millions of people don’t know how to read or write, audio Bibles are desperately needed. Handheld audio Bibles make the Word accessible to everyday people—regardless of their education level—and they’re a discreet way to share Christ in places where persecution remains a threat.
Your gift today on Giving Tuesday can supply the audible Word of God to those who are hungry for Scripture. Please give now to help us reach our goal of raising $400,000 to supply 80,000 Bibles to Christians in need. Act before midnight on Tuesday, December 3 and you’ll take advantage of our $200,000 Challenge Grant, maximizing and doubling your impact for persecuted believers across the globe. Thank you in advance for your generosity and may God bless you!
